Panic Disorder

Panic disorder is when a person has constant and recurring panic attacks for no apparent reason. This is usually a normal response of many people especially when they are in a dangerous, exciting, stressing situation and have a lot of anxiety or fear. It usually has symptoms such as nausea, sweating, trembling and irregular heart beats. It is not a dangerous disorder though it can be scary and intense. Panic disorders do not cause physical harm and thus one does not need to see a doctor or get admitted in hospital. They last for approximately ten minutes but can either be shorter or longer. People with these disorders usually experience panic attacks. They occur at different intervals in different people where you can have a person having them daily another weekly and another once in a year.

Panic disorders are not caused by specific factors but can occur due to different situations. One many experience them because they inherited it from a member of the family. They may also be caused by psychological factors such as life transition events, stress, environment and a person’s way of thinking. They can also be caused by body reactions towards various things or illnesses that one may have in the body. People with many responsibilities also tend to suffer from the disorders. Some stimulants such as coffee many also trigger a person to suffer from the attacks.

The disorders do not have a defined method of treatment but there are some things one can follow in order for them to be cured. Some people do not get totally healed but they are only suppressed and many appear at a later date. One needs to look at the cause of the disorder and treat them at the root, for instance if it caused by too much responsibilities you need to be able to find a way of managing them so that they do not cause you panic attacks. If there are serious and bring a lot of complications you can visit a doctor or a psychiatrist who will guide you on the way forward. You can also buy over the counter drugs such as antidepressants which are taken every day to help in the treatment process. You can also take anti anxiety drugs which help you to get rid of anxiety which mostly leads to panic attacks. If your children develop this disorder at an early stage you need to seek medical attention so that it is stopped and does not disturb the child in the future.
